Our Sabha celebrated the Theertham of Swami Pillai Lokacharya on June 20th. Aani Month – Suka Paksha – Dwadasi Thiti.
We invited Sri. U.VE. Parasara Bhadri Swamin, Sri. U.VE. Kapisthalam Swamin and Sri U. Ve. Srivallaban Swamin.
The day started with Thirumanjanam and Gosthi. Then There were spiritual kalakshebam of Granthas of Swamin.
Swamin Sri Pillai Lokacharyar composed eighteen works that are collectively referred to as Ashtadasa Rahasyangals
1. Srivachanabhusanam (SVB)
We had a detailed discussion about Sri Vachanabhusanam.
This work is considered as Sri Pillai Lokacharya's magnum opus. As the name implies this work is intended to be an ornament of sayings from purvacharyas. This great work consists of 465 aphorisms that are organized into four `prakaranas' or chapters. Six key concepts are covered that include:
Purusakaravaibhava (Greatness of Intercessor)
Sadhanasya Guarava (Greatness of Means)
Adhikari Kritya (Duties of Prapanna)
Satgurupasevana (Dependence on the Eminent Guru)
Ahetuki Haridaya (Spontaneous Grace of the Supreme Lord)
Guror Upayata (The Role of the Preceptor)
And the great Upanyasakars also touched upon Tattvatrayam
This work deals with the three fundamental real entities (tatvas) of the Visistadvaita system of Vedanta. These entities include cit (soul), acit (matter) and Isvara (the Lord). This work is considered to be a mini Sri Bhasyam.

Thirunakshathram: ippasi, thiruvonam
Avathara sthalam: srirangam
Acharyan: vadakku thiruvidhi pillai
Sishyas: kUra kuLothama dhAsar, viLAn chOlai piLLai, thiruvAimozhi piLLai, maNappAkkathu nambi, kOttur aNNar, thirupputkuzhi jIyar, thiurkannangudi piLLai, kolli kAvala dhAsar, etc
Place where he attained paramapadham: jyOthishkudi (near madhurai) Works: yAdhrichika padi, mumukshupadi, sriya:pathi padi, parantha padi, thani praNavam, thani dhvayam, thani charamam, artha panchakam, thathva thrayam, thathva sEkaram, sAra sangraham, archirAdhi, pramEya sEkaram, samsAra sAmrAjyam, prapanna parithrANam, navarathina mAlai, nava vidha sambandham, sri vachana bhUshanam and many more.
piLLai lOkAchAryar was born in srirangam to vadakku thiruvIdhi piLLai by the grace of nampiLLai. He and his younger brother azhagiya maNavALa perumAL nAyanAr grew up in srirangam like perumAL and iLaya perumAL in ayOdhya and kannan emperumAn and nambi mUtha pirAn in gOkulam. They both were blessed to have the katAksham and guidance of great AchAryas of our sampradhAyam like nampiLLai, periyavAchAn piLLai, vadakku thiruvIdhi piLLai, etc at the same time. They learnt our sampradhAyam under the lotus feet of their father vadakku thiruvIdhi piLLai. Also, one of the unique quality of these two AchArya simhams is that they both took the vow of naishtika bramhacharyam and lived by that throughout their life.
When everything was going good in srirangam, suddenly the news of muslim invasion spread like wild fire. Everyone got very worried since these muslim kings are well known to target temples for the abundant wealth that are in temples. So, immediately piLLai lOkAchAryar (being the senior most srivaishnva AchArya those times) took control of the situation. He instructed the srivaishnavas to raise a wall in front of periya perumAL and left with namperumAL and ubhaya nAchiArs towards south India. He was much older at that time but did not care for himself and he travelled along with namperumAL in the journey. When they were going through the forests, some thieves came and robbed all the jewels of namperumAL. piLLai lOkAchAryar was going a little bit ahead and when he heard about this he came back and the thieves seeing piLLai lOkAchAryar changes their mind, surrenders to him and offers the jewels back.
After this, they reach a spot named jyOthiskudi (near madhurai – backside of Anai malai region). piLLai lOkAchAryar due to his vayOthigam (old age) becomes ill and decides to leave to paramapadham. He thinks about thirumalai AzhwAr (thiruvAimozhi piLLai) who is one of his sishyas to be groomed to be the next leader of the sampradhAyam. He asks his sishyas (especially kUra kulOthama dhAsar) to go and relieve him from his administrative duties and reform him to be our dharisana pravarthakar. And finally he gives up his charama thirumEni and reaches paramapadham there itself.
For our sabha we had decided to celebrate this event at jyOthiskudi on June 20th and for more details please contact sreedharan swamin.

Periya Nambi Swamin Thiru Maligai
The Periya Nambi Thirumaligai is a very unique one in Srirangam. The tiruvaradhana Perumal in this Thirumaligai is none other than Varadarajaperumal of Kanchipuram. Usually one finds that the Tiruvaradhana perumal of most residences in Srirangam is Lord Ranganathar, Him being the main deity of the Kovil here. However, as Sri Sunderajachari Swamy explained to us, Varadaraja Perumal has a special link with the Periya Nambi Thirumaligai. During Swami Ramanujar's times, Devaraja Perumal had spoken six divine commandments to Thirukkachi Nambi, the sixth of which had to dowith a certain 'Mahapoornar'. Devaperumal tells Thirukkachi Nambi to tell Ramanujar to get samashrayanam from 'Mahapoornar', upon which Nambi should adopt Ramanujar as Sishya. Subsequently, 'Mahapoornar' performed PanchaSamskaram for Swami Ramanujar at the Madhuranthakar Kovil near Kanchipuram.'Mahapoornar' is none other than Periya Nambi. Since it was Varadaraja Perumal who showed Ramanujar who to adopt as Acharyar, He has a special significance to the Thirumaligai. Unique greatness: Periya Nambi has borne testimony to the greatness of Swamy Ramanujar by doing something that is otherwise unheard of in our Sampradayam. When Ramanujar was coming along in a ghoshti, His Acharyar Periya Nambi fell at his feet. Has it ever been heard of in Sampradayam that an Acharyar falls at his sishyan's feet? However, so much was the bhakthi of Periya Nambi towards Ramanujar that he considered the latter not as his sishyan, but as Alavandar, his own Acharyar. Seeing Ramanujar as his own Acharyar and recognizing his greatness, Periya Nambi fell at his Lotus Feet. Such is the unique greatness of Periya Nambi. Another incident which shows his Bhakthi towards Ramanujar, was when he gave up his eyesight along with Koorathazhwan after their encounter with the Shaivite king, Krimikanta-chola. How does Lord Ranganathar honour the members of Periya Nambi Thirumaligai? How did they celebrate his 1010th Thirunakshatram? This will be presented in the second installment of this article on Periya Nambi. Herewith, we have the bhagyam of worshipping Periya nambi swamy Tirumaligai Emberumangal (along with Periya Nambi swamy).
Our Sabha did one day kainkarya at this thirumaligai.
